Wheelie Fun Action Art

Movement and mess are staples for most of our projects around here. My toddler has never been able to sit still, she's always on the go, and is often covered in paint from head to toe. That's why ACTION ART is one of our favorites, and it's the theme that Shannon @ohcreativeday chose this week!

I know some people are confused by what it is exactly, so I'll break it down for you. Harold Rosenberg, the art critic, described it to be the "dribbling, splashing, and unconventional techniques of applying art to canvas, where the canvas is not a picture, but an event." With that in mind, I wanted to share one of our favorite artistic events of all time with you.

Wanna try it? You'll need:

• Drop cloths (we like these)
• Paint
• Toy cars, shopping carts, bikes...anything that rolls
• Paint rollers
• Smocks

1. Lay out drop cloths. Set up all of the toys. 

2. Squeeze blobs of paint all over the cloths. 

3. Let your little artists loose. 

These two rode through the paint, used rollers, and even their hands and feet! Encourage them to paint however they want. Remember, it's about process not product! 

The canvas wasn't beautiful, but watching these two create was a thing of beauty. Their enthusiasm was so strong we had to join in ourselves, which made everything even MORE exciting for our kiddos. There's something so satisfying about the feel of paint between the toes, ya know? 

We filled a tub with soapy water and the kids helped us give all of the toys a bath after. Then we had even MORE fun when we sprayed each other clean with the hose.
