You'll need:
- a salad spinner (I picked one up at a garage sale for $1, the other ones from IKEA for $5.99)
- paint (The IKEA MALA paints are awesome. I also fill nancy bottles with paint for little hands to squeeze.)
- googly eyes
- scissors
- card stock
- magazines
- glue
1. Cut shapes out of cardstock. Make sure they're smaller than the basket inside the salad spinner.
2. Place cardstock shape inside salad spinner.
3. Squeeze paint directly on cardstock.
4. Place the top on and spin the basket really fast. We have two different types-one you pull the string like on a lawnmower, the other you spin around. They are both great for building different gross motor muscles, especially because once your child starts this activity they won't want to stop!
5. Take the shape out and let it dry. This is my favorite part. Every single time, the reaction when we remove the lid is so much fun to watch!
6. As the shapes are drying, go through a magazine and find mouths to cut out.
7. When the shapes are dry, add googly eyes and mouths to the spin art.
These happy little pals are going to bring us so much joy and cheer during these dreary winter months. Who am I kidding? We're in California, so it doesn't get that dreary. But we always welcome happy little faces to brighten our days!
